The discount steps for tariff differentiation
Verpact uses five discount steps, each with its own criteria and evidence. In theory, it is clear, but in practice you will soon encounter strict (marginal) conditions and extensive burden of proof.
Use of recyclate (PCR)
Color (white or transparent)
Mono-material (mainly one type of plastic)
Label (no label or recyclable label)
Recycle check (according to KIDV)
Why companies are missing opportunities
Companies are asked to do a lot in order to optimally benefit from the tariff differentiation discounts. The aspects below are the biggest threshold.
Labor-intensive
Lots of data collection and administration.
Error-prone
Strict rules and burden of proof.
Specialist
Knowledge of materials and recycling required.
Due to the complexity, many companies do not start or are conservative. That’s a shame, because savings are often possible.

The future of tariff differentiation
The scheme is evolving. Expansion to other materials, such as paper, is possible. The upcoming European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will also have an impact on Dutch tariff differentiation. With a view to current and future obligations, it is important to gain insight into the properties of your packaging in good time.
